I am a small 5’1, 115 lb woman so when my ex left I found myself very limited since I don’t have roof racks or the physical strength to maneuver my big kayak. This gives me the freedom to kayak whenever I please and get back to my favorite pastime!
It took 4 months to come in. With Covid and the crazy world, this isn’t great but it’s to be expected. I work in manufacturing so I understand the difficulty with supply-chain issues. The first time folding is difficult but after folding all of the seams a couple of times it gets much easier. I didn’t time myself but I have no complaints with the time it takes (took longer to load/unload my old one safely from racks with help). It’s very wide so it’s stable but not the fastest. Great for a calm lake or river. Easy to maneuver since it’s so light. The seat I got only has one seat cushion and the back, I might add some more cushion at some point. I had to keep adjusting the strap for the back of the seat as it stretched throughout my first ride but there is plenty of adjustability in the strap.
So far I am very happy with this purchase. Thank you tucktec.
Glad you are enjoying your Tucktec! Thanks for the review!
Easier to assemble than I thought-first time a bit difficult but watching their video helps a lot
I love my Tucktec, I bought 2 and they work great, stability is great , I will find a different seat but other than that, no complaints
Overall, I am glad I bought it - light, well thought-through, apparently will serve for quite some time. Now what I would have done different: (1) the "folding" movie is WAY too fast and does not draw attention to the critical moments (I spent quite some time trying to fold the beam for the first time); (2) when folded, one of the metal parts sticks out - I scratched muself trying to lift the folded boat, so be careful; (3) the dges of plastic can - and probably will - scratch you when trying to paddle for the first time; (4) the boat is VERY light, so getting in and out in knee-high water is less than easy; (5) the boat is relatively wide, which adds to its reduced stability. I tried to be as critical as I could to help the manufacturers who want to improve. Overall, I am glad I bought it and a free paddle - a good one! - was very handy.
Took Pink Petunia on her maiden voyage and found her to be stable and she tracked beautifully. We practiced assembly ahead of time, so knew what to do when lakeside. Seams were still a bit stiff, but manageable. My adult daughter accompanied me, and, based on what she saw, has decided a Tucktec is now in her future. Highly recommend!
2023 TUCKTEC 8' FOLDING KAYAKS (PRO): Certified Refurbished
I have only got to taken it out once so far. The set up was pretty easy. Folding it back up takes a bit of working out but doable. It would be really nice to have a better way to be able to carry it. That is something that is lacking. The seat could be more comfortable.
It moved pretty good in the water. The paddle is decent. I’m overall happy with the kayak. Storing it and taking it in my car is convenient.
Received the two boats I ordered just before a high altitude camp trip by a lake. Folded them once prior (no issues)to the trip in the backyard. Temp at the lake had been into the 30’s the night prior, was a low 50’s for the first lakeside fold and launch. Worked great, spent several hours on the water. My wife liked them better than her hard boat. I was impressed, tracked very good, structurally sound and maneuvered great. I am anxious to try them on a river. We are going to order another one for our son at Christmas.
It’s nice that a paddle is included so you can get out on the water right away but given the width of a Tucktec it should really be longer. Or offer a choice of sizes even if they have to charge a few bucks extra for longer ones
Easy to assemble. Tucktec’s point and foldability has made kayaking accessible to me.
I was very pleased with the quality if the kayak paddle. It’s adjustable, has splash guards, and light weight too.
Hi I finally got a chance to put together the Tucktek and overall I am very happy with it. There was only one section of the kayak where it didn’t want to fold where the seems were. I attached some photos for you to see to see if this is a big deal as far as it being able to hold onto the clip without it coming off. Please let me know thanks
Simple, performs like a hard shell, as portable as an inflatable.
Perfectly happy with my 10' refurbished tucktec. It was pretty tough getting it together the first couple times, but it gets easier. There's no way I could ever haul around a hard shell kayak, so it was either this or an inflatable - and every inflatable I've tried is flat out dangerous as they're so hard to steer accurately or gain speed in, I fear I could get stranded if wind picked up even slightly. This tucktec however tracks beautifully in comparison and handled some wind and minor waves no problem. It's comfy and I feel safe. No complaints.
I'm absolutely in love with my Tucktec everything from ease of set up to ease of operation and stability!!!!
This paddle is similar to what I planned to purchase, but it came free with the kayak! The aluminum shaft is lightweight and durable. It is easy to put together and breaks down easily for storage. The paddle fins are perfectly shaped for great control in the water. Loving this new design over the previous paddles Tucktec offered.
I’m so very impressed by my new Tucktec kayak. I was apprehensive before its arrival but once I got it together I was excited to get her on water. She was more than I expected, easy to handle, carry, unfold, build and fold again. My order was missing my life vest and customer service was quick to respond and get one out to me before my maiden voyage. This kayak is sturdier than I ever imagined and I felt so safe on the water without any fear of tipping. Even in slightly windy conditions and choppy waters, she held up and tracked great! The only reason I didn’t rate a full five stars is because she still needs to withstand the test of time. With a 3-year warranty however, I have plenty of time to get continued enjoyment.
The tucktec bag is well made and fits the 10 foot kayak and paddles perfectly. The material looks like heavy ballistic nylon and seems to have a waterproof coating inside. I zip my lifejacket around the outside of the bag for carrying. I purchased the stabilizer kit and it fits in the bag, but the adjustable buckle straps are about 4"-6" too short to hold it all. Slightly longer straps would solve this.
The straps might work with the stabilizers and the 8' kayak. Other than that, no issues. The only color is blue, so it won't coordinate with all of the colors if you are all about fashion.
I love it! Floats like a dream. It's much more stable than I expected - I was somewhat skeptical at first. Folded, it fits in the backseat of my MINI Cooper. And as an older woman I totally appreciate being able to easily carry it to and fro. The latches were difficult the first time, but fine after that. It's perfect.
After a little struggle to get it folded the first time around, I took our new 10 footer out for an afternoon at a local lake. On the beach, I was set up in about 3 minutes and had a great time out of the water. The foot bar doesn’t work for me as I guess I have long legs but it will be great for my wife. The kayak tracked OK, but listed a bit to the right which I think is because the fin was a bit bent - easy fix. The kayak came our dry inside and folded up almost as easy as unfolding and setting it up. I got a lot of interested comments from others out on the water.
love the kayak. have had it out several times. originally harder to put together than anticipated but is getting easier.
Very happy with my new kayak! First time assembling was really tough but decided to leave out in the sun to warm up and then it was really easy! Plastic became more flexible! Each time thereafter has been a breeze! I love being able to throw it in the car and go! The only improvement I think that could be made is having the seat back be about 1-2” higher for support. Will be ordering a second kayak for my husband soon!
I was pretty happy with the carry bag. It's not really going to assist you in moving the Kayak around, the straps are enough to do that (I actually was surprised by how short and tight the straps are). But the bag is great to have as an extra layer of protection. I just hauled the kayak out of a lake on the weekend, and it was covered in water and cedar droppings. I brushed it off as best I could but was really happy to toss everything in the bag and throw it cleanly into my back seat. I do find it difficult to include the stabilizers in the bag, but at times it all fits perfectly. Pretty good product if you are keeping the Kayak in confined spaces, and want to keep the kayak and space clean. Not necessary for actual functioning transport.
Still difficult to get the last folding clamp in place after 10 tries, but otherwise folding and unfolding is doable - even for those with compromised hand strength. Seat could use more padding. But overall, a great product. Good customer service too!
